| 1.0 - Our Background to Colour Matching | ||||
| The last 9 years were spent working for a Global Paint Company in a National
Technical Training and Colouristic role, working closely with Vehicle Manufactures and bodyshops' in the UK and Germany. Carrying out Training on vehicle repairs and Paintwork to meet vehicle Warranty standards and Compliancy laws, whilst working to help streamline bodyshop processes. Our Colour Matching ability and understanding of different pigments allows us to produce individual colours for customers together with helping to match Kit Car Gel coats, whilst being supported by approx 200,000 standard colours from the Paint Manufacturer. My early years were spent working for Independent & Main Dealer repair shops as a Panel Beater & Sprayer, working on an assortment of Jags, MGB’s, Stags & E-type's in the 80's through to standard vehicles as well as Bikes & Trikes. I progressed onto Process Sites or PDi centres, dealing with large volume of nearly new vehicles, starting as a painter working 12 hour shifts. After a period I moved on to overseeing the repair processes including the colour & shade choice. This started my interest in colour & later the theory behind colour & pigments. Joining the Paint Company allowed me to obtain a more in-depth level of training in Product Technology & Colour matching. I started as a Technical Demonstrator advising customers & training staff on new compliant products that were being introduced to large repair shops. This meant more time working in PDi centres, supporting the account with new colour shades. I was asked to join the central Technical team based at the training centre working as a Technical Account Handler & UK Colourist. My new role required me to colour match panel cutting sent in whilst making regular site visits to Premier accounts. |
