Project Information
We were asked by Darren Horton to become involved with this project due
to bodywork & paint issues that became apparent when viewing customer’s
vehicle. Unfortunately the Mercedes had been painted some 13 times
(3-4 mm of paint) leading to delaminating between coats & previous repairs
breaking down.
Having a Ferrari body kit fitted allowed us to only be able to re-align Doors,
Bonnet & Boot to a given gap. This also stopped us from taking all
the
panels back to metal as most areas were flushed into the Fibreglass body
kit.
The Bonnet had been airbrushed previously by Darren Horton on a new
panel & required only Clearcoat after any additional art work. The
Front
Bumper had some major damage which we repaired & reshaped before
coating with HS primer.
We used coarse paper & long block to remove old paintwork to a given
paint level, this helped to straighten panels & sharpening the panel
edges.
Repairs were made & vehicle was painted with Epoxy primer. Once cured,
this was block sanded, any defects finished & HS primer applied.
Vehicle was then sanded, masked & cleaned before Ferrari Blue Pearl
base & Clear was applied. After a bake & allowed to cure for several
days
we sanded the vehicle ready for art work. Once completed Clearcoat was
applied..
