Project Information
Some photos were taken of the Ford prior to any work being carried
out by Spectrum Paint Worx. These pictures sadly give an indication
that a lot of money has been spent buying the base colour tinters,
only to have the vehicle preparation & Flip colour basecoat &
Clearcoat applied incorrectly & rather poorly.
We started by dry fitment of sill skirts & later model bumpers,
together with new wings, checking for alignment & visual appearance.
All the paintwork was removed back to the original colour with
careful sanding using the dust extraction system. Fortunately
for us life was made easier as no one had rubbed the panels down
before they were painted, meaning that the paint was flaking off.
The down side meant that we had to be meticulous in the removal
of all old paint to avoid adhesion issues later.
Once the panels where thoroughly rubbed down & cleaned with panel
wipe to remove any traces of dust, dirt & hand marks I started
masking ready for Etch Primer & HS Surfacer to be applied.
All bare metal areas were coated with Etch followed by 3 coats
of Surfacer, applied over the entire outside, door shuts were
left in the OE colour.
Once baked & allowed to stand overnight we sanded the surfacer,
prepared the door shuts & re-masked ready for basecoat colour &
Clearcoat application.
This project was painted in 3 sections. Firstly, the shell &
front bumper. Secondly, doors, tailgate & bonnet. Finally door
handles, mouldings, rear bumper, spoiler, headlamp covers &
petrol flap.
With the panels fitted we could get the car into some sunshine
& have a good walk round checking our latest creation. All these
photos were taken prior to any polishing.
All fitted up, polished & ready to be collected by the customer.
