SPECTRUM QUALITY AND INNOVATION
RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT
Each project can vary dramatically in its complexity & visual expectations which is why Spectrum’s research and testing processes are meticulously conducted using the same methods employed by world-leading paint manufacturers. When (and only when) we are satisfied with the effectiveness and quality of our formulation, we supply you with paint samples so that you can view your chosen finish under various light sources or conduct your own quality control procedures.
Product research is a constantly ongoing process at Spectrum. Many clients have brought us failed projects from other companies and we value the opportunity to examine the work and work out what went wrong. Most of the time it comes down to a lack of product knowledge and not knowing how to access the information that could have prevented the failure.
It is a matter of pride for us to leave no stone unturned to ensure that our finishes will stand up to whatever conditions they will meet in use. Faulty or inferior paint finishes let you and your business down and waste your investment in achieving a high-quality product to take to market, there can be no grey areas.
Foundation is everything when it comes to achieving excellence in colour finishing. We can work with you right from the design or prototype stage to advise on materials and surface treatments to ensure your product will have the optimal substrate basis for paint application and to identify any challenges that might impact the coating process and usage especially when pushing paint application and pigment boundaries outside of their standard working parameters.
And push we do. Our paint finishes can be applied to almost anything that sits still long enough – even recycled or repurposed surfaces and objects! It’s just a question of knowing how to prepare and formulate the primers, pigments and coatings to achieve a saleable, safe, enduring product.
SPECTRUM’S UNIQUE FINISHING PROCESSES
Different substrates pose different challenges for the performance of paint finishes. For instance, MDF and other wood substrates absorb primers and paints and over quite a short period of time the result will be seen on the product. Spectrum has developed unique finishing processes in house that allow us to achieve more robust surface finishes and gloss holdout.
Similarly, metal spray finishes are becoming ever more popular but require skilled handling to build a layered coating that truly delivers their full aesthetic potential and endurance. Conventional clearcoats that are in wide use can help to stop the tarnishing effects, but we have found that their adherence to the exciting new liquid metal surfaces is not as satisfactory as it should be, the finish will delaminate.
Spectrum has perfected an alternative solution that combats these shortcomings and will give a finish that supports and protects the liquid metal paint finish, allowing it to retain its incredible sheen and cope with wear and tear far more effectively.
RECYCLE, REPURPOSE – AND TRANSFORM WITH COLOUR!
Paints and coatings can be used to breathe new life into old products too. We’ve recently done a fantastic project repurposing blown plastic plant pots saved from landfill.
For large or fragile items, especially installation artworks and sculptures, that need to be transported to their destination Spectrum has a relationship with a superb specialist logistics firm who can provide expert handling and safe transportation so that your project arrives in perfect condition.
